About Us
Allard Tower is more than a place to stay—it’s the result of decades of craftsmanship, vision, and connection to the Black Hills. The tower was built by David Allard, who constructed it largely by hand using recycled materials whenever possible, along with locally sourced stone from Custer, South Dakota. Every section reflects a commitment to sustainability, durability, and respect for the surrounding landscape.
David grew up in eastern South Dakota before moving to the Black Hills over 40 years ago, where he quickly developed a passion for building and creating structures that feel rooted in the land itself. Since then, he hasn’t stopped building—refining his craft and bringing unique projects to life across the region.
The tower’s design is inspired by the historic Deerfield fire lookout tower nearby, blending that classic lookout silhouette with modern comforts. Today, Allard Tower offers guests a rare experience: a scenic, rustic retreat perched high above the pines, paired with thoughtful modern amenities that make every stay comfortable, memorable, and distinctly Black Hills.
